I’m An Artist But…

supersonicelectronic:

I’ve never been to a real Art Museum. (Like the Smithsonian, Getty, etc.) I’ve never even seen a work of renaissance art in real life. No Picasso. No Warhol. No van Gogh. :(

The only great museums I’ve been to are the Louvre and the d’Orsay, but there are some wonderful art museums in the South!  All  you have to do is take a weekend off and hit the road.  The New Orleans Museum of Art has a fine collection complete with a Warhol, some Cornell boxes and an Yves Klein.  The Brooks Museum in Memphis has a great exhibition from the Museo de Arte de Ponce full of works from Europe and Great Britain.  The Dixon, which is also located in Memphis, has a Lichenstein exhibition going on until February.  Also, the Warner Museum in Tuscaloosa, AL has one of the best American Art collections in the country.

Don’t worry.  I’m from Mississippi too.  You’ll be able to see Picasso and Van Gogh in due time.
