Girl Arranging her Hair by Mary Cassatt
Sometimes I find Cassatt’s work boring, but then I see something like this and I’m completely entranced.  The brushwork on this piece is amazing.  I especially love the handling of the arm closest to the viewer.  It looks just like a redhead’s sometimes rusty complexion from freckles (and I would know).  And that expressive pink and salmon brushwork in the wall and along with hints of blue-green in the mirror are perfect together.  There’s also something about her features that’s really enjoyable.  Such a stunning piece. Here’s another piece by Cassatt entitled Long Gloves done in pastels I believe.
